“A Christian Educator: Constance Prem Nath Dass (1886-1971)” by Dr. Shobhana Bhattacharji

My maternal great-grandmother, Constance Prem Nath Dass, was an impressive woman. I never met her but my mother, Dr. Shobhana Bhattacharji, and my maternal grandmother, Premilla Nirlottima Mukarji, used to talk about her a lot. Constance Prem Nath Dass was a wonderful role model. She was a professional, a single mother to a brood of six children, she married “late” by those times in her late twenties, she studied abroad at Goucher College, Baltimore, USA, and was principal of Isabella Thoburn College from 1939 to 1945 ( or perhaps a little later).

My mother wrote about her grandmother and presented the paper at an international conference in Ireland. In the Christian Medical Journal of India ( Vol 26, No 3, July – Sept 2011), mum published a profile of her grandmother. Here are the images from the first part. The second part was never published.
